“QUEEN CAKE”

The core of "Queen Cake" is made up of professional, working musicians with a long list of credits to each of their names. Together, they have forged a funky, swamp infused R&B/blues sound of their original songs mixed with tunes from some of their favorite songwriters.

TERESA JAMES - Vocals & Keyboard - has 8 CDs under her name to her credit. She has played live and recorded with Levon Helm, Eric Burdon, Randy Newman, Kirk Whalum and many others in addition to her own band, Teresa James & the Rhythm Trampsteresajames.com/bio

DEBRA DOBKIN - Vocals & Drums/Percussion - has toured and recorded with Bonnie Raitt, Richard Thompson, Shawn Colvin, Jackson Browne and many others. debradobkin.com/discography.php

SATURDAY EVENING SOCIAL CLUB PRESENTS :

AIREEN ESPIRITU AND THE ITCH!

"Her songs have an unusual reach and subtlety, ranging from convincing topical observations like the sharp greed rebuke "Boom and Bust" or the yearning, deep soul of "The Itch." Espiritu's skill and involvement conjure an impressive blend of atmosphere and message.

Espirtu's Southern California band, The Itch, features very capable local country folk talents Ed Tree, Debra Dobkin and Mark Pocket Goldberg, and their performances and repertoire are notable for assaying a remarkably broad musical spectrum."

The evening starts off at 5:00 PM with a cookout. We'll have the grill going and we'll have burgers and dogs etc. and dessert. Bring a side dish if you like and BYOB but we'll have soda and water for you. SATURDAY EVENING SOCIAL CLUB - SONG-O-RAMA!!

We've had a schedule change for July 30 and "Queen Cake" will back in the early Fall for their show. SO this month is "SONG-O-RAMA MONTH!

The best in L.A.'s local and touring songwriters and The Lauren Adams Trio will be playing for your enjoyment.

Chauncey Bowers - Chauncey Bowers is an American Folk Rock artist from Pasadena, California. Coining the genre “Garage Folk,” his music has been described as Kurt Cobain meets Bob Dylan. Chauncey creates music that is unbridled, raw, honest and passionate.

Lisa Turner - Lisa Turner plays what might be described as Celtic-tinged acoustic power folk-rock. Lisa is right in the vanguard of the new generation of female songwriters who not only sing, but have taken the time to master their instrument as well (in her case, the guitar). She's got a clean, pure, agile voice coupled with some smokin' tight guitar licks making her a very compelling act to watch onstage. Paul Anderson of the LA Times said, "Her crystal-clear voice will make your head turn. And once you hear her folk-based songs, you're hooked..."

Brad Colerick - "Colerick's stories are worth hearing in part because he makes singing sound so easy. His warm, sunny, homey tenor brings alive the characters, places and relationships in these 11 songs." (Tuscon)

Lauren Adams and friends! LAUREN ADAMS AND FRIENDS AT CAFE MUSE 6547 Santa Monica Blvd, HOLLYWOOD FRIDAY, MARCH 20TH, 2009 9:00-MIDNIGHT FREE ADMISSION We LOVE this place! I first discovered this place when Randy Sacks invited me down to his show. I just really dig the vibe and comfort of the Muse as well as the delicious food and the owners Crystal and Jennifer who are very cool. So...here's whats in store. Up First: The Lauren Adams Band Featuring Nick Kirgo, David Sutton and Lynn Coulter I cannot be in better company and yes, we will rock you! David is fresh off the road with Lucinda Williams and Lynn, Nick and I have been patiently waiting to get it on and playing together a lot lately so, we're red ta go! THEN: Special Guest Phil Parlapiano WWW.MYSPACE.COM/PHILPARLAPIANO Parlapiano followed his musical path as a founding member of The Brothers Figaro. Signed to Geffen Records after a bidding war, the seminal folk rock duo began to record their full length album, Gypsy Beat, with veteran producer, Pat Moran. Though critically acclaimed, the year was 1989, a full five years before the "acoustic Americana" explosion occurred. "They didn't even have a format for us at the time," explains Phil. "We were promoted on alternative radio with bands like Danzig and Guns N' Roses." After opening for John Haitt, Billy Bragg and Jill Souble, the Brothers called it quits but continued playing together backing folk legend, John Prine. This led Phil to a nine year stint with Prine, touring and recording CD's including the Grammy award winning release The Missing Years and co-writing "Leave the Lights On" for the CD Lost Dogs and Mixed Blessings. In 1993, Phil was asked to play on the Rod Stewart's pivotal Unplugged and Seated album, which led to a one and a half year touring stint with the rock icon. Parlapiano continued to work in the studio as a first call accordionist and keyboardist with the likes of Jon Bon Jovi, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Lowen and Navarro, Alanah Myles, Iris Dement, Carlene Carter, and Jude Cole. In 1996, Phil was drafted into the smooth jazz world by saxophonist, Dave Koz, which culminated in co-writing a Chanukah song, "Eight Candles," featured on the Grammy nominated December Makes Me Feel This Way. Movie goers saw Parlapiano in the blockbuster film The Titanic as an accordion player during the memorable scene in the lower decks when Kate and Leo are dancing. In 1999, Parlapiano and Bill Bonk from the Brothers Figaro were called on board to join alternative faves, Grant Lee Buffalo, for their Jubilee tour. GLB toured America, part of Europe and Australia promoting their alternative radio hit, "Truly, Truly." When their bags were barely unpacked, Parlapiano and Bonk began touring with Shawn Mullins, also crossing America and Australia. Arriving home, the pair then started to write and produce the Bill Bonk CD, Eveningshade which included songs that were featured on the TV shows: "Alias," "Felicity," Dawson's Creek" and "Joan of Arcadia." As the new millennium began, Phil started to tour with Americana sweetheart, Lucinda Williams. This led to a featured spot on the famed Martin Scorsese documentary, The Blues as well as a VH1 Crossroads program backing up Elvis Costello ..s and accordion. As 2003 rolled around, Parlapiano was asked to join the Let It Rain tour with Tracy Chapman, touring around Europe and the states concluding with the well-known Austin City Limits program. Phil then toured and recorded with seminal punkers, Social Distortion, and is featured on the soundtrack of the movie, Lords of DogTown. Most recently that year, Parlapiano was featured on John Prines Fair and Square which earned the Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album. Through the present, Phil continues to tour and with folk rockers, Lowen and Navarro presently working on the CD, "Learning to Fall".

ABOUT FODfest FODfest is an annual concert tour honoring the life & ideals of the late Wall St. Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who lost his life to terrorists in Pakistan in 2002. In addition to being a journalist, Danny was a talented musician who played a variety of instruments including fiddle & mandolin, and was a classically trained violinist. Wherever he lived, Danny was actively involved in the local music scene, and wherever he traveled, he sought out local jam sessions. FOD is an acronym for Friends of Danny and the concert tour features many of the musicians who played in bands or jammed with Danny while he was alive, as well as many who never knew him but connect with his story. FODfest is a unique performance format: part song-swap, part jam session, part concert. Most of the participating musicians are meeting for the first time on stage. Danny was a firm believer in the power of music to bring people together regardless of ethnic, religious, cultural, or economic differences. FODfest celebrates that ideal and takes place every October as part of Daniel Pearl World Music Days which is organized by the Daniel Pearl Foundation. FODfest is in its fourth year and is organized by musician, songwriter, and producer Todd Mack, a former band mate and close friend of Pearl’s. The concerts are open to the public, and in lieu of an admission charge, donations are collected at each performance to help offset tour & production costs. Kelly's Lot and GoGirlsMusic.com Present "Hep C Aware" Saturday April 12 7-11pm Hallenbeck’s General Store 5510 Cahuenga Blvd., North Hollywood, CA 818-985-5916 A night of music, info and testing for Hepatitis C (North Hollywood, CA): HepCAware.org and GoGirlsMusic will present an evening of live music, free Hepatitis testing and info on Saturday, April 12, 7-11 p.m. at Hallenbeck’s General Store, 5510 Cahuenga Blvd., North Hollywood 818-985-5916. There will be live music by Kelly’s Lot, Scott Detweiler, Annette Conlon, Lauren Adams, Gail Chasin, Genevieve, Annelise LeCheminant, Kimbo, Natalie Kaye Arazi and Maura Murphy (from Aura). Free Hepatitis C screening and testing will be available. Kelly's Lot, which was honored with the “Best Blues Band” award by Rock City News and named one of the Top 13 bands in the U.S. by Independent Songwriter Magazine, has been involved in raising awareness of Hepatitis C since 2000 when lead singer Kelly Z learned her friend Gioia Siciliano had been diagnosed with the virus. That year, Kelly and Gioia worked with the American Liver Foundation (ALF) to create a marathon of music on the Santa Monica pier and educate as many people as they could. The event was a success but Gioia lost her battle months later after receiving a liver transplant. To honor their friend, Kelly’s Lot became the spokesband for the ALF and created a tour that brought them on the road from Los Angeles to Boston to educate people about this disease. At the end of the tour Kelly ran the Boston marathon and performed afterwards with her band to heighten the awareness. It worked and in 2002, with the ALF as their official charity, Kelly partnered with GoGirlsMusic.com in creating events across the country to raise money and more awareness of hepatitis C. In 2004 Kelly formed HepCAware.org and began working again with GoGirlsMusic on a yearly basis for their annual Invasion of the GoGirls in Austin, TX. Through the years Kelly and Madalyn from GoGirls have met many who were suffering with Hep C, which has inspired them to continue the journey of raising awareness through music. They will be working together in October 2008 to kick off another series of events across the country. Producer of an annual telethon to raise both funds and awareness, Kelly Z has also recently teamed with MusiCares and The City of Los Angeles to create awareness in Los Angeles. GoGirlsMusic.com's mission is to promote, support and empower indie women in music. Madalyn Sklar started the organization in 1996 with a vision of bringing together independent women musicians from around the country. Twelve years later, GoGirlsMusic.com produces the GoGirlsMusic Fest, Invasion of the GoGirls, Battle of the GoGirls and more. In the last eight years, Sklar has spearheaded well over 100 benefit showcases for various organizations including the Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls, MusiCares, American Liver Foundation and Nicole Brown Charitable Foundation. There is no vaccine for Hepatitis C. It is a virus that attacks the liver and is spread by blood-to-blood contact. Although 1 in 50 Americans have the disease, 2 out of 3 do not know it. Persons who most at risk include those who have received blood, blood products or an organ transplant prior to 1992; those who have been involved with drug abuse (either injecting or snorting); those who have been patients of dialysis, those who have been tattooed or pierced, shared personal care items, been incarcerated or have been a war veteran (especially Vietnam). This is a free community event that is open to the public. Musical performances by Kelly’s Lot, Scott Detweiler, Annette Conlon, Lauren Adams, Gail Chasin, Genevieve, Annelise LeCheminant, Kimbo, Natalie Kaye Arazi and Maura Murphy (from Aura). Also there will be free Hepatitis testing. For more information call 310-377-2527.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (June 15, 2007) KARMA WITH YOUR COFFEE? SONGWRITERS TO RAISE FUNDS, CONSCIOUSNESS & SPIRITS IN NEW MONTHLY SERIES OF BENFIT CONCERTS (CULVER CITY) The Synergy Café & Lounge continues its commitment to high-quality, no-cover charge acoustic music by launching Grassroots Acoustica, a new monthly singer/songwriter series with a social consciousness, on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. in the listening room of its new Sepulveda Boulevard location. In lieu of a cover charge, collection plates at each table invite donations from the audienc, 100% of which will benefit a different non-profit organization every month. The July event benefits Children of the Night, a Hollywood-based organization that has been dedicated to rescuing runaway teens from prostitution and pornography since 1979. Each month's lineup of Grassroots Acoustica will feature a Who's Who of legendary performers with musical legacies intrinsically tied to Los Angeles' rich history, tradition & landscxape -- as well as a Who's Next of songwriters currently making waves on the local scene. And there's always the promise of surprise unannounced guests. With upcoming evenings earmarked to benefit area homeless shelters, animal sanctuaries, cancer support centers & meal delivery for the terminally ill, series producer & master of ceremonies Mark Islam comments, "There are a lot of artists, some of whom don't perform live very often, who are giving freely of their talents because everyone involved believes these dollars will go out & change the world in quietly profound ways." Onboard for the flagship installment of Grassroots Acoustica are Andrew Gold, a prolific songwriter, session musician, producer & artist in his own right whose "Lonely Boy" was a Top 5 hit in 1976 & whose 1978 single “Thank You for Being a Friend” gained widespread recognition as the theme song for TVs Golden Girls; Larry John McNally, known in music circles as a songwriter’s songwriter, whose moody, lyrical songs have been covered by such legends as Don Henley, Bonnie Raitt, Rod Stewart, Jennifer Warnes, the Staple Singers and Aaron Neville; and if McNally's a songwriter's songwriter, then Rick Cunha is a musician's musician, a stalwart from the Troubadour's golden era who can boast of having played guitar on Emmylou Harris' seminal debut album Pieces Of The Sky & also wrote Jennifer Warnes' recurrent hit "When The Feeling Comes Around." Also on deck from the local singer/songwriter soup are Jane Bolduc, whom L.A. Weekly described as “having a voice like a prairie tornado” -- and self-penned songs to match; and Lauren Adams, who released her debut Americana disc Here Tonight in 1999, as well a follow-up, Thirsty, in 2001, and is herself the host of the long-running Americana Music Circle series at Kulak’s Woodshed. Anchoring every show are artists-in-residence Tom and Byron, an acoustic duo on the rise on the LA music scene and acclaimed hosts of The Talking Stick’s popular Wednesday hoot nights. Synergy’s announcement of a new monthly music series is welcome news in an otherwise topsy turvy time for Los Angeles’ acoustic scene where, between the wholesale loss of Highland Grounds as a music venue in Hollywood in January, the following month’s closing of Sisters of Bubik in Pasadena, and the always-imminent closure of Santa Monica’s Talking Stick, punters and open mikers alike can’t catch a break. Synergy, meanwhile, has more than lived up to its mission statement of fusing creative minds with great food and extraordinary events by opening a second Culver City site on Sepulveda Boulevard to complement its original location on Overland. “Our mission is to bring creative minds together,” says Synergy co-owner Gil Ran. “We wanted to create a place that feels like an extension of our own living rooms.” Co-owner Alex Schteyman agrees. “Come for the music,” he says. “Stay for the menu." And come early. To get a good seat. Grassroots Acoustica series will be held the first Saturday of every month from 8pm. – 10pm in the listening room at Synergy Cafe and Lounge, 4437 Sepulveda Boulevard, Culver City.

THE 8TH ANNUAL AMERICANA MUSIC CIRCLE REUNION! - 8:00 PM
5230 1/2 LAUREL CANYON BL.
NO. HOLLYWOOD, CA 91604 [map]
Price: FREE/Donations accepted
12 artists converge on this night to play together and celebrate the past year. THE 8TH ANNUAL AMERICANA MUSIC CIRCLE REUNION HOSTED BY: LAUREN ADAMS For 8 years we have had the pleasure of booking many, many fine artists for our show. Our legions of fans has grown, evolved and become a real….legion! So…we have a reunion at year’s end to honor all of the artists who have played and have some of them entertain you this night. Our thanks go out to all of the songwriters, from the road and at home for making our year a “wow…great song!” year. Please come down and enjoy the show and Happy Holidays – Peace on Earth….soon…..for us all. Lauren Adams LAUREN ADAMS Shaped by life’s inconsistencies and emboldened by the brighter prospects that tomorrow seems to offer singer/song writer Lauren Adams touches both our soul and our hearts with her music. At the root is Americana, a fusion of rock, country and blues sung passionately by an artist who’s been there, done that and is ready for new challenges. www.laurenadams.com DEBRA DAVIS Debra Davis is a compelling artist who writes hook-filled songs that hit deep. Many songs from her CDs have been heard on TV and in films, and have attracted a big national following of fans who call themselves “debheads.” Debra’s new CD, “Complete” (GCG), is packed with her most powerful material yet, and is now in music stores nationwide. “These songs came from the sadness of goodbye and the awe of new life,” says Debra. “In the course of a couple years I was dealing with loss of loved ones, and then the birth of my daughter Ella. So this album deals with the circle of life and all the feelings therein.” The first single, “Born to Love You,” features a duet with 5-time Grammy winner Christopher Cross. The track “Hiding Place (Da Vinci Code)” is a musical twist on the best-selling novel, and the song “Supernatural High,” is featured on the “Dawson’s Creek” Season 2 DVD, and is also on a SonyWonder CD single accompanying the popular kids’ book series “Avalon: Web of Magic.” www.debradavis.com NICOLE GORDON Nicole Gordon is an award winning singer, songwriter, and musician. Her first solo CD, "Lost in My Head" was picked as one of the Top 12 "Do-It-Yourself" CD's for 2003 by Performing Songwriter Magazine and as one of the Top 25 Demos of the Year by the nationally distributed Music Connection Magazine! Music Connection also named Nicole as one of the Top 100 un-signed artists in 2003, 2004, & 2005. Her song, "The Road Easy" from "Lost in my Head" won Honorable Mention in the Country Music Television/Nashville Songwriters Association International Song Contest in 2004. Nicole grew up outside of Philadelphia, PA the 5th child out of 8. She started singing at the age of 7 and got her first professional gig the next year. In 1995 she teamed with a local songwriter/producer, Bill Hartley and they formed the duo, LEAP. They released 4 CD's, one music video, and continue to write together. www.nicolegordon.net JAMES HURLEY One fan describes him as a blend of “Sting, Santana, and Harry Connick, Jr.” Another simply said; "Sting meets the Beatles"...However one tries to describe it, James' exposure to different countries, cultures, and his own natural inclinations have made James’ music a unique fusion of blues, jazz, rock, and pop that crosses musical boundaries. After years of performing in bands, the elegant simplicity of one voice - one guitar was so attractive that in late 2003, James decided to focus on his career as a solo singer/songwriter. His latest release – “The Sun And The Moon” – is the result. It's reminiscent of traditional Jazz and Blues yet has a different, contemporary flavor, it offers the organic simplicity, accessibility and vibrant immediacy of his solo acoustic performances and what has been called, “a voice that can melt your heart.” www.jameshurleymusic.com MARK ISLAM Part journalist, part introspective troubadour, Mark Islam is by his own admission "first & foremost a songwriter. I'm the guy who observes with pen in hand, recording my perceptions." Called by Edge Magazine "a compelling storyteller with an equally intoxicating voice," the Delaware native began his songwriting career when studying literature at Boston University, where he played in coffeehouses and wrote his first songs, emulating his songwriting heroes -- Joni Mitchell, Kris Kristofferson, Warren Zevon, Lenoard Cohen, Carly Simon, & Carole King, to name a few, as well as some of the new crop that emerged in the mid-to late-80's, such as John Hiatt, Nanci Griffith, Mary Chapin Carpenter, & Rosanne Cash. www.markislam.com LISA JOHNSON Native Philadelphian Lisa Johnson moved to Los Angeles in the early 90’s and has been performing for appreciative audiences ever since. Her debut CD “Whenever the Moon Is Full” on local indie label Trough Records, has garnered excellent reviews from assorted national publications and Webzines as well as airplay on college and NPR stations nationwide. Lisa, who was recently named one of the “Hottest Unsigned Acts in Southern California” by Music Connection Magazine, is often compared to Sheryl Crow and Melissa Etheridge for her powerful voice, her remarkable skills as a guitarist and for her passionate and infectious songwriting. www.myspace.com/lisajohnson NICK KIRGO Nick Kirgo is the most sought after sideman in L.A. and a monster songwriter and producer in his own right. He is currently working on Lauren Adams' latest project as well as composing music for the TV show "The Ghost Whisperer". TONY LUNN Tony Lunn is a singer-songwriter from Los Angeles (via Chicago). Having fronted many bands over the years in Chicago and L.A., his latest project is a solo album called t"The Last Days of Diresville". He is currently playing in Los Angeles, Chicago and everywhere else he can. When not playing with a full band. He plays Acoustic usually accompanied by his drummer Michael Kinkade. His first album, and eclectic mix of acoustic and electric Americana Rock. Is due iavailable now online! www.tonylunn.com GREGG SARFATY Few independent artists have attained the kinds of milestones that Stewboss have achieved in their short career together. The band consisting of Gregg Sarfaty (vocals/guitar), Jano Janosik (drums), Luke Storey (bass) and Frank Lee Drennen (guitar/mandolin/harmonica) have all spent time in bands on major labels. From their own separate experiences, they have gained a first-hand understanding of the inner-workings at a label. Their experience also taught them a lot about the work ethic necessary to achieve success in this business. Four songs from their debut album Wanted A Girl have been placed in independent and feature films. www.stewboss.com DAVID SERBY David Serby tells simple, (mostly) true stories and writes traditional country songs. Serby spent his childhood in a small Illinois town and his songs reflect the struggles and the challenges of the working man. Music lovers from all walks of life are sure to connect with the images and emotions evoked by his lyrics. He’s influenced most by artists and writers like Hank Williams, Harlan Howard, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash. With the help of his good friend and producer Ed Tree he released his first record. “I Just Don’t Go Home” was recorded at Treehouse Studios in San Gabriel, California with a hand-picked group of musicians including Rick Solem (piano), J.D. Maness (pedal steel guitar), Skip Edwards (piano and accordion) and Gabe Witcher (fiddle). ERNEST TROOST Ernest Troost is an Emmy-winning and multiply Emmy-nominated composer of more than one hundred scores for films and television. His new album of songs, “All the Boats Are Gonna Rise,” is a departure from his more well-known work, but also a return to his musical roots. y mixing the traditional country blues and ragtime influences of Blind Blake, Tampa Red and Mississippi Fred McDowell with the literate lyrics of contemporary songwriters such as Bob Dylan, Robbie Robertson, and John Hiatt, Troost has created an album that captures a colorful world long past of levees, dam builders, morally ambiguous characters, and disillusioned patriots. Moreover, he imbues them with a dark playfulness and relevance for today. www.ernesttroost.com BUDDY ZAPATA “Turo” the newest album by Buddy Zapata, is such a creative tour-de-force one has to resist the urge to jump up and click his heels. Completely innovative, completely original and completely liberated from preconceived musical formats, expectations or boundaries, Zapata, along with producer, Archie Thompson, has created a brilliant album. Zapata’s first tune invites us to take a “Boat Ride”, its melody pulling us back in time down the Mississippi River to the swamps and bayous of the South. Through this journey, we’re reminded that great music, much like America’s own waterways, has the power and reach to connect us all, North and South, East and West. For his unique artistic vision, Zapata is to be highly commended. For bringing his vision to life through his superb songwriting, singing and guitar playing, Zapata should be considered without a doubt, an American original, in the same vein as John Cage, Aaron Copeland, Bob Dylan and Leonard Bernstein. www.buddyzapata.com

The idea for the Telethon was born 3 years after Kelly Zirbes began raising awareness of Hepatitis C to honor her friend Gioia, who lost her battle with the disease. During that time Kelly produced benefits and shows all over the country with the help of other musicians interested in making a difference. After hosting a online Music Video show Kelly realized that the internet was the perfect tool to quickly and efficiently raise awareness and provide information about this silent epidemic. In 2004, Zirbes founded HepCAware.org and created the Telethon to do just that. With the help of the Hepatitis C Caring Ambassadors Program the telethon has also become a voice for those affected by Hepatitis C.
